The Question of the Chromebook

The Question of the Chromebook
An Opinion Piece

The chromebook in ITMMS can be a very powerful tool and can greatly increase a student's IQ. But, starting this year, questions arose on its dependability and its safety features. The chromebook has recently been very widely used for games and looking up things unimportant to the current lesson in class. Even the top students in the eighth grade have inappropriately overused these features that cannot be blocked by school administrators. Students having access to anything: games, adult content, and even pornography, cannot possibly be allowed to be looked at or played on these devices.

Now, I’ll be moving on to reliability. To start, the school’s wifi connection is very poor. I know the school board has tried to no avail to fix it for the use of the chromebooks. On Thursday, September 8th, the entire wifi crashed. Students weren’t even able to log in to the chromebooks, and ever since then, the wifi has been very shaky.

Finally, I will evaluate if these laptops are worth all the troubles they’ve caused. Although they are a great learning tool, the students clearly are not mature enough to use the chromebook’s to their full destiny. So, I ask you, the school board, to greatly reconsider the chromebooks. The students just aren’t mature enough for this kind of power and access to such inappropriate content, and the wifi is at best a 5 out of 10.
