Mount Everest - the tallest mountain in the world at an elevation of 29,029 feet. The first ascent or expedition was May 29, 1953. Since the mountain is very high just to get to the summit you need a oxygen tank. When you reach Camp 4 you receive the tanks, and when you are up there ten breaths only feel enough for one breath. The first people to even reach the summit are Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary. Here are some facts about Everest. Around 4,000 people have tried to climb it, it it is located in the Himalayan province, it is 60 million years old, and it is also called “The Mother Goddess of Earth”. Mount Everest was formed by the movement of the Indian tectonic plate pushing up against the Asian plate, which made it so tall. Weather facts about it are: the wind can reach up to 200 mph and the temp can be as low as -80 degrees Fahrenheit. The history: in 1865 Mount Everest was named after Sir George Everest as he is the one who found the mountain after a British expedition in 1841. The youngest person to climb Everest was Jorden Romero at age 13 when he reached the summit and the first female to reach the summit was Junko Tabei.
